Welcome to Selected Film Works (1896-Present)

Hello Substack. I wanted a space to write about different parts of different films that interested me so I created Selected Film Works (1896-Present). Articles will appear sporadically and their content will ultimately be random, although everything will be through a “film” lens. This means I might write about a very specific element of one film, or I might write about a recurring motif across a particular director’s filmography. Everything is adjustable, which is my excuse for not having a theme.

A bit about me: I’m Andrew. I’m Scottish.

I’m a recent university graduate who is struggling to put himself out there, so this page will also act as a confidence builder for me (free therapy). As you might have guessed I really love movies. I’m also a keen reader, sleeper and pigeon stalker. Although pigeons mostly just land in my garden. Who doesn’t love working from home?

I have a particular interest in the films of Park Chan-wook, Alice Rohrwacher, and Stanley Kubrick. Weirdly, I like their films so much that I probably won’t write about them all that often. It’s often the one-offs from filmmakers that interest me the most. But again, its adjustable.
